Honestly, I'd have a hard time recommending any subaru though. That said, I wouldn't do non-warranty work at any subaru dealer, its very expensive. I had good experiences in Fairfield, FWIW, though I didn't buy there. They changed a CV axle and messed it up in a way that if it hadn't been discovered, wheels would have detached. I mean, this is old but it may have changed. A couple I know just bought their fourth Subaru from Elk Grove, and their encouragement is one of the reasons why I bought one for myself.ĮG subaru service sucks, FWIW. (But they replaced my center console lid for free, so it evens out.)įriends who have bought from Lasher's Elk Grove Subaru have similar experiences: Parts and service are pricey, but car prices are good, and customer service is exceptional. I bought a spare key, which had to be programmed to the ignition lock system, and the cost at the end of the day was well over $400. Since most don't mark up the prices on new car inventory, they make up their money on parts and service, and boy do they make up their money. Most dealers will give you a "discount" on parts and service because they want you to feel like a valued customer, but those discount prices are still way marked up. Having said all of this, the one area where Subaru dealers cause a little heartburn is their parts and service pricing. They also prioritize good customer service and community outreach initiatives like volunteering, so most dealers do that, too. For instance, Subaru strongly discourages dealers from marking up prices on new cars, so most don't (but they do on used ones). Like other dealers, most are independent, but Subaru really keeps them under the thumb. Again, wasn't expecting that!įrom what I've heard, this is pretty common with Subaru dealerships. Fairfield Subaru turned around and sent me a check in the same amount. Turns out, a transfer is cheaper than a new registration on the car, so DMV sent Fairfield Subaru a refund check for somewhere between $20 and $30 (I can't remember). I had specialty plates on my older car, which required going down to the DMV to transfer. Last, during the financing process, I paid the tax, title and registration on the car in cash, and Fairfield Subaru handled the paperwork on their end. Paid my $100 co-pay, only to have it refunded a week later after Fairfield Subaru's warranty adjuster caught that it was supposed to be covered by the powertrain warranty (10 years, no deductible) and not the bumper-to-bumper warranty under Added Security. Turns out, it was the transmission differential. Nothing that stood out as dangerous or needing immediate attention, but I had it serviced anyway. I bought the Added Security package (which is like Subaru's version of Apple Care) because my used Subaru was one week from having the factory warranty expire, and I just wanted to be safe, you know? My mirror went out two months after buying the car, and Subaru covered it under the extended warranty, just had to pay the $100 deductible, and I was on my way.Īlso, I didn't catch this on my test drive, but I noticed a weird whining noise when I drove above 50 miles per hour (typically on the freeway), and only when accelerating. Parts and service happened to have a spare console lid in the same color, and offered to put it on my car without charge - by then, I had already signed the paperwork, so that was a nice gesture on their part. The lid on the center console was pretty badly damaged, it looked like someone had spilled hot coffee on it at one point. My car came at a good price because there are a few dents, dings and other cosmetic damage to the exterior, which is fine, I don't really care about that (my last car, which I drove for 12 years, got plenty of those). I have a few good stories about my dealings with Fairfield Subaru. Thanks for helping make /r/Sacramento a great place to surf and share all things Sacramento!
